How many revenue goals have you set — and how many have actually got you moving?
I used to set revenue and performance goals all the time. But what I noticed was that they rarely encouraged me to take action. I knew what I wanted to achieve, but I didn’t feel motivated by the goal itself. Until I came across the idea of development goals.
That really got me thinking.
Because when you connect a goal to something you genuinely want to learn or improve, it becomes much more motivating. Which makes you much more motivated to achieve something.
In property management, for example, a performance goal could be: I want to rent out 10 apartments this month. A development goal could be: I want to become better at negotiating with tenants.
One focuses on the result. The other focuses on what you can learn and improve along the way.
And sometimes, a small mindshift like that can be just what you need to get moving.
It works for me!
